Join poets Fathima Zahra and Jack Underwood as they read from their collections and chat to the audience. 

Poetry in the Library is a relaxed event where you will have the chance to hear poets read and ask them questions. Join Fathima Zahra and Jack Underwood who will read from their poetry collections. Books will be available to buy and borrow on the night.

About Deptford Literature Festival

Deptford Literature Festival takes place each March and celebrates the diversity and creativity of Deptford and Lewisham through words, stories and performance. It is run by London Writers Centre in a collaboration with independent producer Tom MacAndrew, with support from the Albany, Deptford Lounge and Lewisham Libraries. The festival is part of our campaign to make Lewisham the UK’s first Borough of Literature.   • Fathima Zahra

    Fathima Zahra

    Fathima Zahra is an Indian poet, performer and facilitator based in London. She is a Roundhouse Poetry Collective and Barbican Young Poets alum. Her debut pamphlet ‘sargam / swargam’ published by ignitionpress, was a PBS Pamphlet Choice. Her poems have won the Bridport Prize, Asia House Poetry Slam and Wells Fest Young Poets Prize.

  • Jack Underwood

    Jack Underwood

    Jack Underwood is a poet, writer, critic, and Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London. While primarily a poet, Jack has also published works of short fiction, flash fiction, essays, non-fiction and literary criticism. Jack’s poetry collections include A Year in the New Life and Happiness (both published by Faber).

Deptford Literature Festival celebrates local talent and introduces exciting new writers from Lewisham and nearby boroughs. We want to be able to continue to offer our workshops, readings, events and community projects at a low cost.
