30 years supporting writers

In December 2025, with a desire to raise the profile of the organisation and reach more storytellers, Spread the Word became London Writers Centre.

We are still working towards the same vision. We’ve spent three decades nurturing writers, championing unheard voices and making literature accessible to all, and that’s not about to change.

Made to celebrate our 30th year, in this film hear from London Writers Centre founders Bernardine Evaristo and Ruth Borthwick, our current director Ruth Harrison, chair of the board Aimée Felone, as well as poets and writers who’ve worked with us over the years.
